Curation: Beyond the Buzzword – Resources Shared at #ASTD2013

At the 2013 ASTD International Conference and Exposition, I am conducting a concurrent session entitled Curation: Beyond the Buzzword. The session is taking place on Sunday May 19th at 1:45pm, so if you’re attending the conference, please feel free to attend.

CurationHere’s a description of the session:

Curation is a term that is becoming more and more common in the learning field. Unfortunately, most talking about it do not understand what it is, let alone how to leverage it for their organization. And yet, it is a critical future competency for those in the field.

During the session we will define curation, including the various types and levels of curation that exists (including aggregation, filtering, elevation, mash or match-ups, and timelines). We will share examples of each that show the value curation adds to learning programs, as well as techniques that contributed to the examples.

Many in the field know that curation is a rising need. They hear about it a great deal, and in increasing frequency. What they do not understand is why curation is important, and how it will affect their role. This session will answer all of those questions.-Explore how curation is affecting the way we consume information. -Discover how the shift to curation is affecting the world of learning and development. -Apply curation concepts and ideas to workplace learning environments. -Use curation to maximize instructional design output.

This blog post is being set up a follow-up resource for those that attended the session. It may also serve as a resource for anyone that wants to learn more about curation and learning.
